Monkey Art of Shaolin Page

Of all the various branches of KungFu, perhaps none is as intriguing in its suppleness or eye-catching in its agile fluidity as the Monkey Art of Shaolin. It most definitely is, when an expert demonstrates the techniques of the art.

Such a man is Low Koy Tho; whom many claim was perhaps the favorite martial art student of that legend in KungFu, Sek Koh Sum. There are some who will disagree with this, but few can dispute that Sek Koh Sum taught the complete Monkey Art to just one man – Low Koh Tho.

"The Master had this habit of picking on a particular student, taking him aside and instilling into him all that he knew of a particular technique or art," said the very neat and soft-spoken Low."

"When the Master selected me to impart his full knowledge of the Monkey Art, he did mention that he considered it to be one of the most complete and efficient of all the arts of KungFu. Though he was the Master, I didn't have to accept this assessment blindly. Over the years I have tested this art and I find out what the Master told me is true."

Question
If it is such a good art, why is it not practiced more widely?

Answer
It is an extremely difficult art. Anyone interested can learn it, but to be able to master it, you have to be physically talented. To master the art, your body has to be conditioned to acquire the agility and dexterity of a monkey. It is a near perfect art, in that it is capable of every aspect of attack and defense, both in armed and unarmed combat. It can counter the techniques of any other art, be it from the Inner or Outer family.

Question
What is the most effective technique in the Monkey Art?

Answer
Every technique in an art is the most effective in its own right. Each has its purpose in defense or attack for which the other techniques in the art cannot be equally good. Each technique is the most effective according to the circumstance facing the exponent of the art.
